Quarter 3. Week 2: January 27-31, 2020

Thursday was a fun rally to kick off the fun run fundraiser. Your student came home with all the paperwork and information to get sponsors and earn money for our school. Please be sure to click here and register your students as well.

Many of our students are running low on supplies. Color pencils (for math, social studies, and steam), expo markers, pencils, and erasers seem to be the most needed items at this point. Please check in with your students and send those supplies with them as soon as you can! Thanks!

Please join us in congratulating our county representatives for the science fair. This year our fifth grade will be represented by Jaden Coleman, Nico Medina, Henry Kondrat, Caroline Peters, Aiyanna Reyes-Mager, and Kendyll Squires. Pray for them over the next month as they re-work and practice their presentations! We’d also like to give a big shout out to our alternates: Ryan Grilli, Ethan Mopress, Maverick Muse, Sophie Thompson, and Mia Vomvolakis. You all did a fabulous job presenting your projects!

Quarter 2: January 13-17, 2020

There are so many exciting things happening in fifth grade this week and coming up at TLCS. I will try to be brief.

The science fair is finally here! All the hard work, sweat and (sadly possibly even) tears are about to come to an end! We will be presenting in class on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Please help your student re-read the science packet we gave him/her and double-check everything is completed! I am so excited to see and hear all they’ve been working on these past 6 weeks! There is a chance for you to come to see what all the fifth and seventh graders have done for their science fair this year. We will be in Monsche Hall on January 16th from 2:10-to-2:55. Feel free to stop by and peruse the ingenious work our kids have on display!

This week is also an assessment week for reading comprehension and spelling (or what we lovingly call “grey books week”). This means there will be less homework and more time to get caught up on AR reading, missing work or fix-it tickets!

With that, the quarter is about to end. Our kids are almost halfway through the school year! Therefore, we have a deadline for AR, missing work and fix-it tickets. All assignments must be done by 3 pm on Wednesday, January 15 in order to be entered into the grade book for this quarter. Please see the missing assignment sheet given to your students on Thursday and help them complete the work!

The home and school club are excited to announce our first annual Family Hoedown and want you to save the date! Join us Friday, January 24th from 5-8pm for a Western Themed night full of line dancing, food, crafts, games and more! Not a seasoned dancer? Don’t worry! There will be a professional caller leading us in some fun, EASY line dances. We will have a Kid friendly BBQ, dancing, crafts, games, etc. for the whole family! Or you could make it a father-daughter/mother-son/mother-daughter/father-son…you get the idea…dance. The price: $15/adult, $10/child, 2 and under free. See the school website for reservations.

Welcome back to school. I hope you all had a fantastic break and were able to get some great rest!! We will spend almost an hour a day each day this week to finalize the science fair projects. Certainly, that will not be all the time they will need, so plan on finishing it all up at home! Please remember the due date is next week, January 13th!

I hope everyone got their President biography (or autobiography) and are ready to learn what to do with it on Monday. Remember they are not to read it yet. They haven’t gotten their instructions or graphic organizer for the project yet!! We just need books to come to school every day! This is a fun project and I look forward to getting the kids started on it!

The quarter ends on January 17th, which means that the AR goals and all missing work must be done by January 15th! Please encourage your students to use the next few weeks and weekends to get some reading and make-up work done. Please check carefully and plan accordingly!
