Quarter 2: December 2-6, 2019

Happy Thanksgiving. I do hope you have an enjoyable and precious time with your family and friends. This week we talked about reminding ourselves daily of at least 5 things we are thankful for. I was blessed by how many kids said shelter, water, and food. We are very blessed here in our area of the world and it was a joy to know that our kids understand that and are grateful!

We kicked off our science fair unit in science class this week. Each student should have his or her proposal returned to me by Monday. I will get back to them with approval or suggested changes to keep it manageable (and of fifth-grade quality). Tuesday we have the field trip where they will be given more work on the scientific method in order to tackle their project with confidence!

The annual Carols, Cookies and Cocoa event is coming up. Encourage your students to keep practicing their parts. On Monday they will have an in-class audition for singing or dancing parts. If they are wanting to audition for a dance part, please be sure they wear comfortable clothes.

I will mail them to my brother on Thursday for him to distribute them to his patients on Monday the 11th. If you would like to send some cards in to add to the collection, please feel free to do so!

What’s Happening in Music Class!

October Letter to Parents-
In the month of October, we began discussing singing techniques and learning the vocal scale “Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti, Do.” Before we even had a chance to discuss pumpkin carving or Thanksgiving, we dove into learning the songs to our Christmas show, Cookies, Carols and Cocoa. As we learned the songs, students learned dance moves to go along with the songs. We also practiced how to sing on pitch, how to change keys, and how to perform for an audience. As we learned our Christmas songs, we also talked about Jesus Christ’s birth and the true reason for Christmas.

Because there are so many talented students in each class, each grade will have the opportunity to audition for vocal and dance solos for their songs. Audition dates have not been decided yet, but the students will be made aware as soon as the date/time of the auditions is discussed.
It has been awesome to watch the students perform, and show off some of their singing and dancing abilities. I cannot wait for you to see your child show off their talent for the Cookies, Carols and Cocoa show in December.
