Quarter 3 Week 8: March 18-22, 2019

We had some exciting news this week. Milan Garley and Rose Lockwood each placed first in their section of the science fair. That is so awesome, but Milan also placed second overall for all of the fourth and fifth graders in Santa Cruz County! We are so proud. They represented TLCS and our fifth grade well!!

March 28th is our annual spring concert.  The theme is Around the World. Our fifth graders will be joined by the fourth grade in singing 4 songs. Mrs. Cutler asks that all fourth and fifth graders wear blue or purple to the concert. We will meet at the class pews at 6:15 pm while you go find your seat for the show! You can then come to their pew to pick them up at the end of the show.

The students were given an opportunity to use their creative skills and earn extra credit in history. They are welcome to create a US flag using whatever medium they choose. We went over several ideas this week, so ask their plans and have some fun! The flag is due by March 28th in order to be applied to their history grade. Again this is extra credit and no one is required to participate! Have fun!

Quarter 3, Week 7: March 11-15, 2019

We had such a great time at the courthouse this week. As a follow-up assignment, the students wrote a persuasive essay declaring Danny as guilty or not-guilty. They were so excited to write their essay and wanted to spend the whole day defending their point of view. I love when the students get so deep into a lesson that they can’t contain themselves and have to talk about it. I am so proud of all of them.

We have another field trip coming. We get to go watch the CYT performance of Lion King Jr. on Friday. If you haven’t signed the permission slip, please do so soon.

The auction night is coming this week. Purchase your tickets for a fun 80’s themed night. Mrs. Schertz and I will be there in our best 80’s party clothes ready to serve up the fun. Our class did a beautiful art piece that will be on display and auctioned off that night as well. Come on out and enjoy yourself (even if it is to laugh at the TLCS faculty in their brightest and best from the 80’s!).

Quarter 3, Week 6: March 4-8, 2019

This is a big week. We will be heading on our next field trip, and having our in-class speech meet. For the field trip, all the students (and the chaperones) are asked to dress appropriately for the courthouse. This means business attire: slacks or skirts with dress shirts, please. I hope you are all as excited as I am!

On Monday you will receive the progress report for this quarter (the one on Friday was a misprint of last quarter’s grades). There are still 4 weeks in the quarter to make adjustments to those grades. The two biggest things stopping many from the grades they are hoping for are 1) missing work (if they have any, there was a list in the Friday Folder) or 2) not meeting their AR goal. Both of those things are easily corrected and there are still 4 weeks to do it!!

With only 4 weeks left in the quarter (and 13 weeks left in the school year, can you believe it?!?!) things start to move very fast. Please keep reading the blog, checking your student’s folder and asking your student what is happening!
