Quarter 3 Week 5: Feb. 25 – March 1

What a fun night we had at the Open House on Thursday. It was so nice to see all your faces and get to chat a bit. I hope you had a chance to go see what your students will be up to next year in middle school as well as the beautiful art they have created this year!

This week is the unit 4 assessment week (commonly referred to as “grey books week”). The homework will be lighter due to the assessments, thus this is a great week to get missing assignments, AR and the speech meet selections worked on. Please remind your students that they still need to do 50-60 minutes of work each night on these three subjects as well as the Westing Game and anything we do in history or science this week.

Quarter 3, Week 3: February 11-14

Happy Valentines Week! And Presidents Week too! So much to celebrate this week!! Please remember that we don’t do a party in fifth-grade, however, if your student wants to bring a valentine for every member in the class I will give a few minutes at the end of the day to hand them out! If you need a list of the students in our class let me know!

Last week at the Fun Run we had a great time in the gym. We ran, danced, sang and had a great time. Well, ok. I danced and sang while the kids ran! It was fun, nonetheless! Our top two runners were Sam Garroutte and Rose Lockwood. And Belle Littlefield won second place in the whole school for fundraising! Please congratulate them the next time you see them!

We had our second check-in for our Speech Meet Selections. Most of the students not only know their 1/4 but knew so much more. I was very impressed! Keep up the good work!!

This quarter is a shorter quarter than those in the past. This is why the AR goals are a bit lower. I have been talking with the kids about their need to be reading at home and taking AR quizzes. This weekend is especially a great time to get some reading done. We start a new book club book on Monday and they may want to have some of their own reading done before then! They were all given a note with what is left of their goal on Friday (2-8-19). They should know what they are working towards!

Quarter 3 Week 2: February 4-8, 2018

We are one week into the third quarter. We celebrated the end of the President’s book club, the 100th day of school and the Fun Run. It was a full and busy week for sure. However, sadly we also have had several out sick. We’ve been trying to keep our hands and desks clean in class. I’ve also reminded the kids to get a good night sleep each night and eat only healthy foods! Hopefully, we can all get better and end the spread of illness in the fifth-grade classes!!

Cursive has been implemented in our class for Bible and Spelling. I must say I am very impressed with this class’s cursive skills. I am used to having to spend time re-teaching letters, but I have had little reason to with this group! You may see some random cursive pages coming home throughout the quarter. Those are just for practice to strengthen their skills. If your student chooses to not use cursive on the Bible Verse they will be asked to do a practice cursive page in its place.

Speech Meet is starting in full force this week. Everyone has chosen their selection and broken it down into 4 parts. Now they will start memorizing. They should spend some time at home on it but will be given some time throughout the week in class as well. Here is the schedule for check-ins to be sure we are staying on track! Thanks for the help!

  • January 31: Selection is chosen and broken into 4 parts for memorizing
