Q3 W7: March 12-16, 2018

It is hard to believe that in only 3 weeks we will be 75% of the way through fifth grade. Yep, this is the time of year that I get a little sappy because I already know how much I am going to miss my kids! It has been a fantastic year with some remarkable kids and I am already not looking forward to letting them fly away to middle school! Thank you for letting me have them in my class this year!

Although we are almost done with the 3rd quarter, we aren’t totally done. The kids still have 3 weeks to get their AR goals met and raise any class grades they are currently unhappy about. Be checking gradelink with them regularly and help them get their reading going!

We are doing some chemistry in science next week! We need pennies that are tarnished. The teacher guide recommends coins that are from the year 1982 or older will work best. It would be great if you could look around your house or in old wallets and allow your student to bring in some pennies for us to use in science! Thank you!

Many have already been asking about the fifth grade promotion day. Details will follow, but the promotion is on Tuesday, June 5. Be sure all the grandparents and aunts and uncles are available that day! It will be a fun day for sure!

Quarter 3, Week 6: March 5-9, 2018

Happy March.

As many of you may know, I am taking classes at San Diego State University. I am almost done and ready to get the next certificate, however, I need to videotape myself teaching a class. Today your child has brought home a letter/permission slip. I’d appreciate if you could sign the slip and get it back to me by Tuesday, March 6. If you have any questions feel free to email.

This week is our field trip to the Watsonville Courthouse! This is a fun, but very informative field trip. Since we are going to the courthouse we are asking the students to dress nicely. Slacks, skirts, dresses, nice shirts, etc. are best. Please don’t let them wear jeans, leggings, t-shirts, etc. We are representing our school in a place of governmental business. Thank you.

The end of the quarter is quickly approaching. This means AR reading goals are quickly approaching. I do have several students who have been keeping on track and are reading and taking quizzes. However, there are some students who still haven’t taken a quiz or have taken very few. Please remind your students to be reading a “fun” book every night.
