Q3.W5.: February 26-March 2, 2018

Thank you to all who came out to Open House Thursday night. It was a fun night to celebrate all your students has done so far and preview what they will be doing next year!

Permission slips were emailed this week. Please be sure to sign your student up as soon as possible. We are still in need of drivers, so please let us know if you can drive! It is a short field trip, but a fun one!

Open registration begins March first. This means there are only a few days left to guarantee your student’s spot for sixth grade.

Some of the students were surprised when I mentioned that it is 5 weeks until the end of the quarter. Keep checking gradelink and working on those AR reading goals. We are running quickly toward the end of the school year!

Next week is our “grey books” or assessment week in class. This means that there will be more time in class to get missing assignments worked on. But it also means our students need to be sleeping well and getting good protein! Thank you for the help!

Quarter 3 Week 4: February 20-23, 2018

It was a short week, but it was full of activity! Our class ran a total of 658 laps at the jog-a-thon. And they did it with such a great attitude! I was so proud of them all. If you haven’t turned in the envelope with pledges, plese be sure to do so by Wednesday, February 21, 2018.

We are starting a new book club on Tuesday. It is really a fun mystery book (and one of my two favorites in fifth grade), which means it is really important that the students stay on schedule (and don’t go ahead).  We haven’t had the bookmarks and journaling for Book Club in a while, but they will have reading and journaling every night. Please help them to keep on top of it! Getting behind (or moving ahead) in a mystery book can be very confusing!

Quarter 3, Week 2: February 5-9, 2018

It’s auction time at TLCS! Darlene Prentice has taken my idea for a class project and made it better. However, she needs a little help from you. Please email her with a picture of your child with something he/she loves or a poem he/she has written or a drawing he/she has done. You may email it to me or to kalinak@aol.com this weekend! Also, be sure your student is here on Monday because we are going to do the whole class part of the project then! Thanks!

The ACSI Speech Meet is upon us. Please be helping your student memorize their selection each night for the next 5 weeks. I will be working with them next week about how to break each piece down into manageable sizes to memorize a little at a time each week. Thank you for helping your student at home!

We are in a new quarter. As we inch our way toward middle school we are growing in our responsibility. One of those ways is by remembering to put our name on all of our papers. For this quarter each paper without a name will have to be redeemed from the “no-name wall” for 3 tickets. I hope we get to the point where no one will ever owe me a ticket (or 3) again! Another thing that is coming up is cursive. I am having the students start slowly with copying their Bible Verse in cursive. I know some got confused and thought I was going to make everything cursive for the whole quarter. I am sorry if this caused any confusion or frustration. We will inch our way and do a few words a week, plus Bible verses throughout the quarter until everyone feels more comfortable reading cursive!
