Week 7: October 2-6, 2017

I do hope you all had a relaxing four day weekend. I was able to get many things accomplished, but I must admit I missed your kids a great deal. I am looking forward to Monday when I get to see them all again!

As a class we have decided to submit an art piece to the Twin Lakes Church Art Show coming at the end of the month. I look forward to seeing the beautiful art celebrating a heart of gratitude to our heavenly Father. If your student comes home with a clothes pin to decorate, please help him/her to keep it safe and return it to me as soon as they can.

Last week you should have received an email from Mrs. Imel giving information about a service project our school is electing to do. We are collecting toys, books, games, warm clothing and anything else a child might feel blessed to have and will replace items lost during the hurricanes in Texas. Our class has a collection bin and a few items all ready to go! You may simply send the items with your child to deposit in our bin any time before October 25th!

Week 6: September 25-27, 2017

This week is a short week, so things will be done slightly different. Please notice the spelling list is much shorter than usual. We are working on words that have been frequently misspelled this year.

We start a new book for Book Club this week too. This book is a historical fiction about a boy who’s family is settling land in the American Indian territory of Northeastern North America. It is a fun book filled with adventure and drama, however there are many old and unfamiliar words to fifth grade readers. Please help your student to follow the directions on the book mark and find the words for each chapter.

AR reading goals are set and being met by many of our fantastic students. Please encourage your child to find, read and take quizzes on chapter books in their reading level. Quizzes taken on book too far below the child’s reading level will not be accepted for AR points. Miss Gilbert and I both have several books to borrow in a variety of reading levels if your child needs to borrow one. The county library is another fantastic place to find a good read!

Week 5: September 18-22, 2017

It is hard to believe we are already at week 5 of fifth grade. This year is moving so fast, but we are having a blast. I am so blessed by these kiddos every single day!

There are a few important things I wanted to bring to your attention. First is a reminder of the Friday Folders. Please be sure you go through all the papers in the folder. Miss Gilbert and I put notes on many of the papers to help remind them how to correctly complete the work in the future. These notes are important to look at before recycling the papers. There are also several 100% papers worth celebrating before recycling!

Another important reminder is that AR goals are posted and your students should be reading an AR book several times a week. If you’re having a hard time finding an AR book, you may want to check  www.arbookfind.com . They have a list with several books, their reading levels and point values. Your child may borrow from either fifth grade library, the county public library or purchase a book. AR goals are to be met by the end of the quarter for the grade. In order to be in the AR party they need to meet 125% of their goal.

Finally, Drive For Schools tickets went home in the Friday Folders. Please check them out and sell them as soon as possible. We can always get you more if you need them. We have until October 20th to sell as many tickets as possible. For more information, see the latest email from Danae Miller.
